Where to get your yoga teacher training in Montreal in 2025

If you’re ready to make the plunge into your 200hr yoga teacher training and live in Montreal, congrats, you’re just like me 5 years ago! I was doing all the research, talking to all of my favorite teachers and trying to weigh the pros and cons of doing trainings at different studios. It’s a big investment of your time, money and sanity so I really don’t suggest making this decision lightly! Here’s a round up of what decision criteria I think are important to consider and the top 5 trainings available in English in Montreal.

Things to consider when selecting a studio for your 200hr yoga teacher training in Montreal

Location

The first thing I knew was that I was NOT about to do an online training. I wanted the in-person experience of connecting with other folks who love yoga in Montreal. I wanted to go to a physical space every week where I could get out of my comfort zone, my home environment, and really focus on learning. I wanted the hands-on adjustments and to learn how to give them too. That said, I needed the location to be close to my home! Because I would be spending so much time at the yoga studio, I wanted to go somewhere that would be easy to get to and close to where I live.

Instructors

I also wanted to learn with teachers who had been practicing and teaching yoga for 10 years+. Some people claim to be able to train yoga teachers but have only just started on their journey. Maybe they’re great teachers to their students, but are they great teachers to other aspiring teachers?

Benefits & perks

Let’s face it, yoga teacher trainings are PRICEY – most are over 3500$ CAD. But they can be worth it if you think of the perks you’ll get for signing up. Most studios offer you an unlimited membership at the studio so you can practice as much as you want throughout the training. That’s worth thousands of dollars right there! You might also have access to rent the studio to practice teaching small groups, discounts on other trainings and workshops, retreats and more.

Schedule

Is the yoga teacher training an intensive over several weeks or spread out over several months on the weekends? How much homework do you have to do at home? If you’re spending weekends away from your family, how will you be able to manage childcare and make time for your friends, family and partner? Make sure you are available for the entire schedule because missing one weekend can really put you behind and may even affect your ability to graduate the program.

Style of yoga

Is the yoga teacher training specialized in Vinyasa? Hatha? Ashtanga? These are key questions to ask before signing up for a training because you need to be a die-hard lover of that style of yoga to want to dedicate 200 hours of your time to it. I highly recommend doing a class or two at the studio with the teachers leading the training to get a feel for the style and if it resonates with you.

The best studios for your 200hr yoga teacher training in Montreal

With those decision criteria in mind, here are the top 5 studios I love to recommend based on what’s important to you.

  1. Studio Mile End

Studio Mile End has been offering their yoga teacher training for over 11 years and has trained over 500 students. Their training program is modern & evolved while still respectful of tradition and the origins of yoga. The studio is reputed for their creative and intelligent vinyasa sequencing and this no doubt is translated into their teacher training program.

Led by Marie-Pier Turgeon and Patricia Letendre, this is richer than a typical 200hr training – Studio Mile End offers a 300hr program for new & aspiring teachers. Their stunning mile end studio space is located on Laurier St & St Laurent Boulevard in Montreal. The suite of senior instructors and guest instructors are knowledgeable, kind and passionate. With special guests like Terri McCollum, Jill Campbell, Rachel Jacobs, Ariane Paradis, Frances Vicente and more… you’re in for a wild ride of knowledge sharing. I personally did my training here in 2019 and couldn’t recommend it more!

2. Akasha Yoga Montreal

Akasha’s yoga teacher training is led by Asami Martens, Julie Comeau and Karl Notargiovanni. Their space is located in St Henri right next to Lionel-Groulx metro station. Akasha’s yoga teacher training offers a 2 month break in the summer, which allows their trainees to integrate their new skill and knowledge without rushing. Focusing on vinyasa yoga, the Akasha training stands out with its focus on community and deep care for tradition. If you’re looking for a well-rounded and classic yoga teacher training focusing on asana, anatomy, philosophy and teaching methods, this training is for you! The senior instructors leading the training also have rich backgrounds in traditional chinese medicine, kundalini, hindu mythology, yoga theory and more that bring even more to the table.

Akasha’s early bird promotion is on until October 31st, 2024 for their next cohort! And they have 1 full scholarship and 2 partial scholarships for BIPOC and LGBTQIA2+ still available!

3. Luna Yoga

Luna Yoga is reputed for its Jivamukti style yoga classes that are hard to find anywhere else in Quebec. They’ve been offering a 200hr training program for the past 14 years in vinyasa style yoga. This is a classic yoga teacher training rooted in deep knowledge of asana, philosophy, pranayama, meditation but also bringing a modern look at anatomy and the realities of teaching in a modern-day setting. This programme doesn’t just teach you yoga – it offers you a chance to grow as a teacher with hands-on guidance. Upon completing the training, you'll have the opportunity to teach classes and receive additional support and feedback. The studio is located in the old port on St Paul street.

4. Morpho Bleu

If you want something a little different than a traditional 200 hour yoga teacher training, Morpho Bleu’s The Course is for you. This training is also more in depth than a typical beginner-level training – it lasts 222 hours and covers topics like astrology, traditional chinese medicine, ceremony and space-keeping in addition to traditional yoga teacher training topics like sequencing, hands-on adjustments, biomechanics and the business & ethics of teaching. The training is inspired by many styles of yoga including kundalini, hatha and Katonah.

Led by Sara Gallagher Bloom, with incredible guest teachers like Matt Phippen, Kate Gillespie, Kimiko Fujimoto, Abbie Galvin, and more.  The studio space is located in NDG on the corner of Girouard and Monkland. While this is a newer training, there aren’t any graduates to testify to it yet but with the lineup of teachers and wealth of knowledge the studio has been built on, I can assure you this will be a worthwhile experience.
